At the doctor, the dentist, and the tire-shop - preventative maintenance is the easiest way to save money. Fortunately for our customers across New Hampshire and Maine, this little tip won't require jogging or flossing. All you have to do is follow the dead-simple steps below.
Sometimes, pennies can seem like a nuisance. But knowing they can help save you from dangerous road conditions and costly repairs might encourage you to keep a few on hand. If you've recently wondered "How do I know I need new tires?" or "Are my tires wearing unevenly?" - just ask honest Abe.
Most tires will not pass an inspection if your tread depth is less than 2/32. But inspection-day surprises are the last thing you feel like dealing with. If you don't have a tread-depth gauge to inspect your tires (who does?) all you need is a penny and a few minutes.
1. Place the penny into a number of different tread grooves across each tire, head-first (pictured)
2. As long as Lincoln's head is covered by the tread you have more than enough to last (more than 2/32").
3. If you can see Lincoln's head completely, it's time for new tires. If you're in NH or ME, why not take a look at our promotions and find your nearest Stratham Tire location?
4. If you find that Lincoln's head is visible in some locations, but not all - you should at least consider a tire rotation and maybe a wheel alignment. But if the tire is completely bare in certain spots - it is definitely time for new tires.
