Automotive Fluids

Why service is necessary: In order for your vehicle to perform properly, its fluids need to be kept clean. For this reason, each of your vehicles liquids need to be inspected and changed at regular intervals in order to prevent them from burning (engine oil), depleting (antifreeze), and collecting gunk and deposits (virtually every fluid in your vehicle).

Knowing the symptoms and signs to look for when it comes to checking and replacing fluids is essential. If you see any liquids dripping from your car or pooling in your driveway, it’s important to know the symptoms and signs to look for to understand the appropriate action to take.

Here are a couple signs to look out for when it comes to knowing identifying a particular leak: Radiator Liquid is bright green and very slippery.

  • Antifreeze or coolant: can be pink or green, and is always unsafe for your animals. Ingesting antifreeze can cause major health problems and death for your animals, if your vehicle is leaking antifreeze schedule service immediately.
  • Brake Fluid:Brake fluid is typically a light yellow and can eventually become a foggy shade of brown when it is mixed with water. Your brake fluid should be changed about once a year to ensure your brakes are working properly.
  • Automatic Transmission liquid is a deep red, has a sharp smell and is relatively thick. It needs to be flushed around every 30,000 miles
  • Power Steering Liquid: the fluid that controls power steering typically has a yellow tint, and can quickly checked and topped off
  • Motor Oil: is typically bright or dark brown, depending on how often you replace it. If you change your oil on a regular schedule, it will be brown, however, if you replace your motor oil less frequently it will be darker. You should have your motor oil changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
